“I was very nervous about letting a stranger in my home to look after my cats but I cannot say enough good things about Ashley who looked after my “boys” They were happy to see us home but they were much more relaxed with having someone come in and spend time every second day. I was given a typed sheet of paper welcoming us home and also written down was the daily reports of what was done and how the cats were(what they ate, how they interacted etc). The litter boxes were cleaned and swept litter off floor, mail was picked up, plants watered, lights and blinds rotated and if neighbors hadn’t shoveled our driveway, that would have been done as well. “Our experience working with Mandy at While Away has been exemplary. The care, consideration and service provided have all exceeded our expectations.
Due to a family emergency that required travel, we needed someone to care for our pet immediately. Although I called several pet care services without success, I found Mandy’s service through a referral and she quickly came to our rescue!
Our aging, handicapped and chronically anxious German Shepard required hands on attention and care. Even with all the ‘heavy-lifting’ involved, While Away staff were more than happy to accept the responsibility and allow us to get on our way.
I received regular email updates from the care-giver, notifying me of everything an overprotective pet-dad needs to keep him at bay. Upon our return, we were thrilled to find our pet more that content with her care, and our home in excellent state.

“Oh, you all are a ten! My two cats, though lonely when I’m on vacation, do not have the stress of traveling to the kennel (or even getting into their car carriers and having to live with other cats. They actually seem more bonded when I return, having planned various ways to “get back” at me. And rather than the stress of picking them up at the kennel, forcing them into the carriers again, and a 30 minute drive, I come in the door and have them jump on me and we have a joyous reunion. That really means a lot to me. Also, knowing that someone is checking my home is reassuring too. They are in good hands with your company and Shelley is great and convenient to get to for key exchange. Your fees, though higher than a kennel for the two, are comparable because I don’t have them checked every day (every other day depending on the length of trip, with the odd two-days-in-a-row just to keep them happy). “

“Our little Lhasa Apso, Chance passed away a few weeks ago. She was fifteen and a half and had been in poor health for the past year as her kidneys were failing. However, Kirsten has come in and looked after her on two occasions and was absolutely super. She emailed us every day and gave us reports of how Chance was behaving, what she ate and how she slept. She even emailed us photo’s of her. We felt extremely comfortable with Chance being in her care and I would recommend your company and in particular, Kirsten, to any of my friends. “When I leave town, I leave very confidently knowing that my pets and my house will be well taken care of. It is such a relief having someone who I trust to take care of things. And, the staff at While Away has gone beyond the “call of duty” numerous times for us. My Golden Retriever was quite elderly and they gave her much tender care in giving her medications and “loving on her.” When she got to the point that it was too hard for her to go for long walks, they would take her outside and gently play with her.
Additionally, when we were away last summer, our house was invaded by red ants. Vern with While Away quickly isolated the dog and cat and their food so they would not be harmed by the ants. He then contacted me, sealed up the window the ants were coming in with tape, and put red pepper around the windows to try to keep the ants away. He then worked with our landlord to have the ants eliminated and stayed inside with the pets so they would not be near the spraying or be upset by the work.
While Away gives me such peace of mind when I have to travel.” PS
